Cabinet Painting in Pacific Palisades, Brentwood, & Santa Monica

A typical kitchen in Santa Monica or Brentwood takes five to seven working days from the day we start taping. Larger kitchens with a butler pantry, glass fronts, or an island take a day or two longer because every door and drawer front still has to be numbered, prepped, sprayed, and cured. We give you a day by day schedule before we start so you know when the doors come off and when they go back on.

Mostly, yes. The doors and drawer fronts come off, but the boxes stay in place and the sink, fridge, and range usually stay usable. We seal the kitchen off with plastic sheeting to keep dust out of the rest of the house. There may be a day or two when we are spraying the frames right around the sink or cooktop, and we will tell you ahead of time so you can plan a takeout night.

Often we can, but it depends on condition. Laminate and thermofoil need a bonding primer and careful scuff sanding so the paint can grab. If the thermofoil is peeling at the edges, bubbling, or the seams are lifting, we will tell you straight that painting over it is not worth it. We would rather turn down a job than give you a finish that chips in six months.

On open grain woods like oak, ash, or hickory, the grain can telegraph through the paint even after a couple coats. If you want a completely smooth, factory like finish, we grain fill first, then prime, sand, and paint. That adds a day or two to the schedule and costs more, but it is the difference between a painted oak kitchen that looks rustic and one that looks custom.

We spray. Doors and drawer fronts get removed, numbered, and sprayed in a controlled area so the finish lays out flat and smooth with no brush marks. The frames and boxes are sprayed in place with the same product and sheen so everything matches when the doors go back on. We never brush cabinets and call it a day.

You can load the cabinets the day after we finish rehanging the doors. The coating is dry to the touch, but it keeps hardening for a couple of weeks. We recommend going easy on the doors at first, no slamming, and waiting a few days before scrubbing them. After the full cure window, the finish is tough enough for normal kitchen life.

Yes. We can reinstall your existing pulls and knobs, or we can install new ones you have picked out. If the new hardware has a different hole pattern, we fill the old holes, drill new ones, and touch up the area so it looks clean. We also adjust the hinges so the doors line up evenly when we put everything back.
